CSF Languedoc – World Cancer Day and AGM, 4th February 2025
by Kate Le Mestre
Our Annual General Meeting was fittingly held on World Cancer Day at the Salle des Fêtes in Margon. CSF’s theme this year is “United by Unique”, which aims to raise awareness of and take action on people-centred cancer care that integrates each individual’s unique needs. We will explore different dimensions of patient experiences and stories through posters and resources.
Over 50 members and friends of CSF Languedoc attended to meet Active Listeners and CSF volunteers who shared information on the various stands on show, illustrating our social activities including the regular Art Group and Writers’ Group. A stand dedicated to cancer prevention provided information on breast, prostate and colorectal cancer screening.
After a delicious Mediterranean lunch, provided by Ken and Alison’s Catering, the AGM took place. Kate Le Mestre, the outgoing President, welcomed all those present and thanked the members of the existing Bureau and Council for their hard work and commitment during the past two years. The reports from the President and Treasurer, which had previously been sent to all members, were unanimously adopted.
The new bureau was also elected unanimously, composed of Karen Powell (President), Yvonne Winstanley (Secretary) and Maggie Dobson (Treasurer) and was followed by a short Members’ meeting outlining projects for 2025. (See photos below).
Following the AGM, occupational therapist Josephine Dolan-Dufourd, gave a short presentation on the topic of how to cope with the inevitable problem of being a patient yet not feeling treated as a person. Josephine illustrated her talk with various straightforward techniques and materials which can be easily used in many types of these stressful situations.
